Bowery Mission Week

During this very cold week in January, we are thinking about our neighbors in need who are turning towards local organizations like The Bowery Mission for a warm meal. To support this wonderful Lower East Side-based organization, we are observing Bowery Mission Week from January 20-26th.

For 135 years, The Bowery Mission has offered the City’s homeless a warm meal, shelter from the cold, and the opportunity to leave the streets and start a new life through residential recovery programs. Since the beginning, the Mission has helped change the lives of countless men, women and children caught in the cycles of poverty, homelessness and dependencies of many kinds.

To spread awareness for the great work the Mission does for our community, our downtown New York teams are wearing The Mission’s signature red aprons this week. Each of the aprons we have purchased provides a month of meals for one individual. To purchase an apron of your own, or to find out how to join in our partnership, click here.

In addition to the aprons, our teams are taking a break from the LPQ kitchens this week to volunteer their time in the Mission’s kitchens, serving the 80 residents of their residential program as well as over 200 hungry community members each shift!

On Monday, Le Pain Quotidien CEO Vincent Herbert joined the dinner shift team, who marveled at the sheer number of people that the Bowery Mission was able to serve in one night. Despite the negative temperatures and freshly fallen foot of snow on the ground, our Wednesday morning breakfast team opened up the day bright and early, serving 238 meals and even boiled up some lobster, donated from a local business, for lunch later that day!
