Tasty and nutritious: our “Better Choices”!
At Le Pain Quotidien, we believe that every meal is an opportunity to nourish your body and care for the planet. That’s why we created a Better Choices Charter in collaboration with renowned nutritionist Lut Van Lierde. Each of our Better Choices dishes meets at least five out of the six nutritional criteria below:
50% or more plant-based proteins
80g or more fruits & vegetables
7g or more fiber
Less than 10% of calories from added sugar
5g or more nuts & seeds
Less than 10% of calories from saturated fats
To build this charter, Lut Van Lierde used the Planetary Health Diet by Eat Lancet as her foundation—a globally recognized, science-backed nutritional framework developed by 37 scientists from 16 countries. The goal? To combine personal well-being with environmental sustainability.
“Just like at Le Pain Quotidien, the Planetary Health Diet shows that health and sustainability go hand in hand. What I love most is that nothing is excluded—it simply sets smart limits per food group. Everything is allowed, but always in balance.” – says Lut.
Thanks to these thoughtful criteria, you can enjoy our flavorful and nutritious dishes with total confidence. Because when you eat well, you feel better. You have more energy, move more freely, and sleep more soundly.

At once simple and elegant, our tartines bring taste to the table and delight to the palate. Did you know the word tartine etymologically stems from the old French, diminutive of tarte (tart)? The word tartiner in French literally means “to spread”; in our case: to spread butter, cheese, and ingredients on a slice of sourdough bread.
